Description
One of the most popular members of the Dissectum group, Acer palmatum ‘Viridis’* has been around a long time and knows a few things about being an Acer. Grows strongly, and is happy in most positions. The leaves emerge a pale green in the spring before turning a dark green for the summer months. The autumn sees an array of oranges and yellows before the leaves fall. Position in at least half a day of sun to ensure good colouring throughout the year. By training the central leader up a bamboo cane, you can create a taller plant which will cascade down; left to its own devices it will become a wide, mushroom-shaped beauty (if that’s a thing?).
*Previously known as Acer palmatum subsp. dissectum ‘Virdis’, it has since been decided by those in the know that ‘dissectum’ should not now be considered a sub-species.
