Description
Acer palmatum ‘Inaba shidare’* is an old cultivar and one of the larger-leaved members of the dissectum group. The new foliage is covered in soft hairs upon emergence in spring which last only fleetingly as the leaves unfurl. It holds its purple colouration well through the summer before turning a fiery crimson in the autumn. Its weeping habit means it looks great in a pot where it can cascade happily.
*Previously known as Acer palmatum subsp. dissectum ‘Inaba shidare’, it has since been decided by those in the know that ‘dissectum’ should not now be considered a sub-species.
