Description
Discovered in the 1970s growing as a Witches Broom on an Acer palmatum ‘Bloodgood’ by Pennsylvanian grower Edward ‘Skeeter’ Rodd of Raraflora Nursery. As with all Witches Brooms, the habit tends to be dense and bushy with the central lobe of most leaves much reduced in length. ‘Skeeter’s Broom’ is an upright grower and doesn’t get too tall, making a good alternative for the smaller garden. Dark purple foliage emerges in the spring and holds well through the summer months before turning scarlet in the autumn. Site in at least half a day of sun to encourage strong colouring.
